Certificate in Pre-School Education and Elementary Teaching in a Northern Context I (5340)
This program aims to develop Inuit human resources capable of taking charge of the development of educational services in the Inuit communities of Nunavik. It aims at the pedagogical training of teachers and other education agents, actors of the educational project of the preschool and primary sector of these communities. The planned path favors the development of psycho-educational and socio-educational knowledge and skills with a view to integrating practical knowledge and theoretical knowledge. In this process, the concept of action research supports an intervention inspired by an intercultural approach aimed at individuals taking charge of their practice. The first characteristic of this program is the recognition of the cultural identity of the populations to which it is addressed.

This program aims to enrich the development of the professional identity of Inuit teachers and other educational resources. It provides concrete tools and addresses pedagogical concepts consistent with the teaching act. The proposed learning path promotes the acquisition of knowledge and skills specific to planning, didactics, assessment, classroom management and social intervention. This program aims to: strengthen the tools for conceptual analysis of educational situations; strengthen the development of Inuit language skills in relation to language and mathematics content and teaching.

This program aims to develop the skills of teachers and other Inuit education resources as front-line actors in the school project. It aims to continue the training of pre-school and primary teachers. The planned path favors the development of knowledge and skills in didactics, psycho-pedagogy, remedial education, social intervention and in the areas of language, identity and culture. This program aims to enable teachers and other Inuit education resources to: strengthen the tools for conceptual analysis of educational situations; strengthen the development of Inuit language skills in relation to the content and teaching of the language; analyse their professional development with a view to identifying needs for further training; develop the basic knowledge for the analysis and understanding of interactions between groups of people belonging to different and distinct cultural groups.

This program aims to improve the professional practice of teachers and other educational resources as actors in the community school project. The professional skills to be developed within the framework of this program are of two types: skills related to the acquisition of knowledge specific to the various school disciplines taught in Inuktitut with a view to improving their teaching, and skills resulting from related knowledge. The creation or adaptation of methods and resources to facilitate the teaching of various school subjects in Inuktitut. In this context, the progression of student learning constitutes the perspective of the education provided. The acquisition of the two types of skills mentioned should lead to a significant improvement in teaching practice in Inuit communities.

In the field
For each course according to the dispensation formula chosen, the professors or lecturers stay in Nunavik for one or two course sessions. These periods are intensive and require organization, initiative, and adaptability to adjust to the many unforeseen aspects of living in a northern community.
Long-distance interaction
Be it to plan training activities, to deal with issues at greater length, to prepare a course, or to help students with their work, project management and educational support are assisted by video or phone conferences. These conferences link the two Inuit communities of Ivujivik and Puvirnituq to the UQAT campus of Rouyn-Noranda and Val-d’Or. In addition, the co-management group meets in face-to-face twice a year for a working session of two or three days. They plan and assess training activities, analyze development projects, prepare action plans, and think over educational and language issues that arise from training of teachers and other educational human resources
